Billboards and Trees, a series of new paintings by Ron Johnson
presented by James Oliver Gallery,
Saturday, November 18th, 6-11 pm.

With his solo exhibition Billboards and Trees, Ron Johnson turns the idea of the classic landscape on its head by using manmade billboards as his subject. He juxtaposes these images with organic, fractured trees, conveying both in their most basic elements of composition, light and space. This show comments on the physical modern landscape by asserting that natural landscapes could now, unfortunately, be replaced by looming, rectangular advertisements dotted along our highways and yet these billboards, when striped to their barest forms, can suggest as much mood and atmosphere as trees in their natural environment.

Exhibition runs through December 30th.

Billboards and Trees is the second original exhibition presented by James Oliver Gallery. Come on out to JOG for a great party and a unique new gallery experience! Gallery hours are Thursday 5-8 pm, Friday 5-8 pm, Saturday 12-8 pm, or by appointment, call 267-918-7432.
